Free Sheet Music
This web site is an invaluable resource to any music student. It contains literally tens of thousands of scores that you can download for free. They are all scores whose copyrights have expired, and are considered public domain. Obviously you won’t find any recent compositions or publications here, but it is a gold mine of classical music.
One word of caution – some of these old editions have errors. We still recommend building a personal library of music containing current publications.
Piano Technique
On Piano Playing: Motion, Sound, and Expression
by Gyorgy Sandor
This is a book we have spent a considerable amount of time studying and applying to our playing and teaching. Sandor was a legendary concert pianist and teacher, who wrote this to address the physical mechanics of technique and playing. He explores the physiology of the hands, arms, and body, and describes in clear detail the motions necessary to play most easily and efficiently. We recommend this book highly to advanced piano students.
